St Helens residents to benefit from neighbourhood health centre on their doorstep

People in St Helens will soon find it easier to access more healthcare closer to home, with Fingerpost Park Health Centre set to be upgraded as part of the government’s first wave of neighbourhood health centres.

The investment means that, once completed, patients can access a greater range of health services all under one roof.

Fingerpost Health Centre already contains 13 GP consultancy rooms, 5 GP treatment rooms, adult social care services, an urgent treatment centre treating minor injuries, and other community services.

The investment pledged will allow for the creation of significant additional clinical capacity, linked to the Millennium Centre, as well as a range of services to support the local community.

A range of services under one roof means more conditions can be treated swiftly locally - allowing people to talk through their health conditions as well as their lifestyle and quality of life and any other relevant contributing factors, enabling a rapid referral to the appropriate care and support where this is needed

The St Helens-based health centre is one of 27 sites announced in the Government’s first wave of neighbourhood health centres, all due to be fully open by 2027.

The Government has pledged to roll out 250 centres nationwide as part of its landmark 10 Year Health Plan, aimed at boosting access to healthcare, cutting waiting lists and tackling inequalities.

Dr Eskander, local GP and Clinical Director of St Helens Place said: “I am absolutely delighted about this announcement, which brings more high-quality care directly to the doorsteps of our residents. By moving services out of hospitals and into the heart of the community - a vital 'left shift' in how we deliver healthcare - we are giving power back to the people and the community in St Helens to manage their health locally.

“This centre represents true, integrated collaboration between providers in a single setting. It’s a proud moment for our town, and I am so glad that our residents will soon benefit from such a seamless, one-stop approach to their wellbeing.”

St Helens was named alongside Sefton as a national ‘pioneer’ area for the development of neighbourhood health in September 2025.
