Guide: Understanding behaviours in children with additional needs by Fledglings

Children with additional needs can sometimes behave in ways that worry or challenge the adults around them. This guide explains how children use such behaviours to communicate their feelings and needs, and how parents and carers can navigate this.

Although the guide is aimed at children with disabilities, the idea that ‘behaviour is communication’ is true for all children, including those with a neurodevelopmental condition like autism or ADHD. We hope that this guide will give you helpful insights into how your child communicates and help you feel confident in your responses.
